Canning 101: Jams, Jellies & Marmalades, Oh My! @UHS

May 18 @ 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

$60

Learn how to can in a casual environment surrounded by woods, fresh air and farm land. In this three hour class, you’ll get hands on with water bath canning as well as discover some insights to quick pickling, pressure canning, & be able to preserve more than just maters.

Classes are limited to 18 participants as a canner can only hold 9 pints & we’ll be making two batches. See, you’re learning already! By the end of the class, you will walk away with the confidence to can your own salsa, jellies, applesauce & more!

For $60/per person, you’ll leave with a pint of your own flavorful farm fresh goodness made with locally grown ingredients. You will also have the opportunity to purchase more Feathers & Fruit canned goods.

Bring snacks or lunch as we will be engaged the entire class time but the casual environment will allow for grazing & drinks. All other supplies will be provided.

About the instructor: Jessie Gantt-Temple has owned & farmed Feathers & Fruit in Soddy Daisy since 2016. Rotating over two hundred chickens in pasture & growing an orchard with blueberries, blackberries & figs, she has grown her knowledge of canning for years. Her passion is decreasing food waste so she was encouraged to can when farmers at the Main St Farmers Market began gifting her seconds or bulk produce to preserve. Serving as the Main St. Farmers Market President for the past four years & previously a Crabtree Farms workshare for seven years, her farm goals are to continue to grow her preservation skills by sharing them with others.
